'He would want that': Curtis Jones explains how Liverpool plan to say farewell to Mohamed Salah starting today

Liverpool are preparing to lose a club legend in Mo Salah at the end of the season, and Curtis Jones has shared how they plan on giving him a send-off worthy of his greatness.

After an international break full of reaction to the bombshell news, Salah’s Liverpool farewell tour is underway. For the next seven or eight weeks, the Egyptian will be in central focus as fans express their gratitude for all the achievements of his nine-year spell at Anfield.

But caution is needed. Arne Slot doesn’t want Salah to distract from what needs to be done to end the season on a high. That’s something Jones and his teammates will be desperate to do for the departing Salah, as he explained ahead of the FA Cup quarter-final against Man City.

Who would you rather see as Liverpool’s manager next season?

Curtis Jones says Liverpool have added Salah motivation to win a trophy

Jones spoke to TNT Sports shortly before kick-off on Saturday, where he first praised Salah for all he has achieved at Liverpool.

He said: “Speaking as a fan as well, it’s hard to see a player like Mo who came in and gave this club everything. He has been a joy to be part of this journey with and see how hard he’s worked.

“For me as a player I see how hard he’s worked and how he looks after himself and his recovery. I’ve learned a lot from him. He leaves a legend, he’s achieved everything he can. Good luck to him.”

Jones was then asked whether Salah’s imminent exit will spur the Reds to win one of the two trophies still up for grabs.

To that question, he responded: “100% and Mo would want that as well. He knows we have got his back in the same way he has always had ours.

“Now we are in the final stages of the season it would be nice to finish on a high. We want to give our best for the fans and the team and especially now for Mo.”

For all Liverpool’s struggles, there is hope still. Whether that’s still the case after the Champions League second leg at Anfield remains to be seen. And Slot acknowledges the importance of this period.

He said before the game: “For everyone in football it’s a massive few weeks. It’s no different to us than City or Arsenal. It’s exciting to be part of two quarter-finals this week.”

It is a pivotal time for all teams, but he will be acutely aware of the extra pressure he is under compared to his Premier League colleagues.

You can only pick ONE player for Liverpool to sign this summer, who is it?

On Salah’s role for the remainder of the season, the Dutchman remarked: “”I would love that to happen because it is such a vital part of the season. The team has to play well and then the individual will shine. Mo was injured in the last game against Brighton. He worked really hard to be back today.”

Ideally, Salah will turn a page with his form and show his usual levels as his legendary Liverpool career winds down.
