Goals: Haaland pen 39′, 45+2′, 57′, Semenyo 50′

Giorgi Mamardashvili – 5 (out of 10)

Might have done better in not being dinked for the third goal but the majority of the problems were ahead of him.

Joe Gomez – 5

Dealt well with Jeremy Doku early doors but was far too easily run off as City flooded in behind and his long throws proved ineffective.

Ibrahima Konate – 5

A simple movement deceived him around City’s second goal and at that point it was game over for Liverpool.

Virgil van Dijk – 4

So clumsy in giving the penalty away at a time when Liverpool were doing fairly well. Did not recover from that mistake.

Milos Kerkez – 6

If more of his teammates had his level of commitment, Liverpool would not have been thumped in this fashion.

Ryan Gravenberch – 5

Some nice early turns out of pressure but the visitors were dominated in midfield and Gravenberch did little to stem the flow.

Curtis Jones – 5

Missed the chance to impose himself in a rare start ahead of Alexis Mac Allister.

Will we see much more of him this season now?

Mohamed Salah – 4

The missed penalty summed up a dreadful day for the Egyptian. Slot surely can’t take the blame for the fact that he is no longer the player he was.

Dominik Szoboszlai – 5

Has been Liverpool’s best player this season but just could not get involved in this one.

Florian Wirtz – 6

Was at the heart of Liverpool’s best moments in the game early doors but was let down by what happened behind him.

How good would he look in a dominant team?

Hugo Ekitike – 6

Like Wirtz, he impressed in the first half, and looks like a player who has the quality to do more in a better side. Won a penalty.

Overall Team Performance – 3

Jeremie Frimpong (on for Gomez, 62′) – 5 – Did not make much difference.

Alexis Mac Allister (on for Gravenberch, 68′) – 6 – Could do little to impact things.

Cody Gakpo (on for Wirtz, 68′) – 6 – Showed some nice touches.

Rio Ngumoha (on for Ekitike, 68′) – 6 – At least tried to threaten down the sides

Slot’s plan was working before the opening goal, but the fact his team responds so poorly to setbacks is ultimately his responsibility.
