'I don't want to say...': £35m striker responds to West Ham links and does not rule out Hammers …

Santiago Castro is keeping all his options open amid reports that West Ham United are keen to take the Bologna striker to the Premier League this summer.

Despite spending over £40 million on Pablo Felipe and Taty Castellanos in the January transfer window, the Hammers keep being linked with new centre-forward targets.

Serie A hotshot Santiago Castro is reportedly under consideration, per Tuttosport, after helping Bologna reach the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

How important is a NEW STRIKER this summer?

Santiago Castro of Bologna celebrates scoring his team's second goal during the Coppa Italia Round of 16 match between Bologna FC and Parma Calcio at Renato Dall'Ara Stadium on December 04, 2025 in Bologna, Italy.

Allegedly valued at around £35 million, Castro spoke for the first time in relation to those West Ham United, Nottingham Forest and AC Milan links ahead of the Rossoblu’s trip to Jamie Vardy’s Cremonese on Sunday.

Santiago Castro does not rule out West Ham United move

The Argentina Under-20 international points out that he signed a contract extension as recently as February, though he also appreciates that nothing is ever certain in football.

“There are two months left until the end of the season, and I’m feeling great with Bologna,” Castro tells Gazzetta dello Sport. “I feel like I’m part of a real family.

“So today, I’m only thinking about this family, because I don’t want to say ‘I’ll stay for a few more years’ and make a fool of myself. You never know when it comes to the transfer market.

“But remember that I recently renewed my contract, so…”

Castro is under contract at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara until 2030. Recent reports suggest that the Premier League is a more likely destination than AC Milan, for example, due to the greater financial might of English football.

Castro stats are impressive compared to Taty Castellanos

Milan are still in the market for a striker as Niclas Fullkrug struggles to impress at the San Siro. The West Ham loanee has scored only once in 14 matches under Massimiliano Allegri.

And while he is very much still a work in progress – Bologna coach Vincenzo Italiano has criticised his finishing at times – the stats suggest that Santiago Castro would be an upgrade on Castellanos should he join his fellow Argentine at the London Stadium.

What is your favourite FA Cup moment of 2026 so far? 🏆

Jarrod Bowen of West Ham United celebrates after scoring the opening goal of the match during the Emirates FA Cup Fifth Round match between West Ham United and Brentford on March 9, 2026 in London, England.

Per Data MB, Castro sits in the 51st percentile when it comes to his conversion rate, scoring with 14 per cent of his shots despite only recording 11 goals in all competitions in 2025/26. Castellanos, in contrast, sits in the 25th [scoring with only nine per cent].

According to reports in Mexico, West Ham have spoken to Armando Gonzalez of Chivas too, while Juventus’ Jonathan David is another to keep an eye on going into the summer. Provided the Hammers survive, that is.
