Cherries host Wimbledon aiming to close gap on second-placed Plymouth

Bournemouth trail Argyle by six points and +4 goal difference, with two games in hand, the first of which sees them take on Wimbledon.

They’ll hope to use that cup victory to build momentum into the remaining four games of the season.

Boss Bleazard told the Daily Echo after the final that they have “four cup finals” to play as they chase promotion, and that starts this weekend.

Wimbledon currently sit 11th in the league with 18 points from their 19 games, and the reverse fixture saw Bournemouth run out 5-0 winners away from home.

Kenni Thompson, who scored the only goal in the cup final last weekend, netted a brace against the Wombles, while Molly Barron-Clark, Sophie Quirk and Emilia Newton all scored in a five-star performance.

A repeat of that result would be just the trick for Bournemouth as it would wipe out the goal difference deficit to Argyle, before they then host Real Bedford at the Vitality Stadium the following weekend.

Wimbledon come into the game off the back of a 2-2 draw with Cheltenham, following a 5-0 defeat to Gwalia United and a 4-0 victory over bottom of the pile Billericay.

AFC Bournemouth host AFC Wimbledon at the Ringwood Community Hub on Sunday, April 5, kick off at 2pm.
