He's outscoring every Aston Villa player: Emery could sign Morgan Rogers upgrade for £0 -…

Despite the season coming to a close, the current Aston Villa first team have a huge opportunity to write themselves into the history books forever come the end of May.

Unai Emery’s side could easily still secure a place in the Champions League next season, with the Villans currently sitting in fourth place in the Premier League with just seven games remaining.

However, they could also secure qualification through the Europa League, whilst also adding another European trophy to the club’s impressive cabinet.

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery reacts

The Spaniard’s success in such a competition simply can’t be understated, with the club arguably the favourites to lift the trophy in Istanbul in a few weeks time.

The manager will no doubt believe he has enough quality in the squad, with one player likely to play a key role in any success between now and the end of the campaign.

The future of Morgan Rogers at Aston Villa

Attacking midfielder Morgan Rogers has once again impressed in the Premier League this campaign, arguably being Villa’s star man in the hunt for a top-four finish.

The 23-year-old has registered eight goals and five assists within his 31 outings, with his subsequent tally of 13 goal contributions the highest of any player in the squad.

As a result, he’s also become a regular member of the England national team, which has only increased the attention and focus being placed on his talents.

The likes of Liverpool and Chelsea are just two of the clubs interested in his signature, with the summer transfer window now rapidly appearing on the horizon.

Given his impact this term, Emery won’t want to lose his star man, but the ongoing PSR issues could see the club forced to offload one of their biggest assets.

Should Rogers be sold in the summer transfer window, it’s likely that a fee in the region of £100m could be demanded - the same as they received for Jack Grealish in 2021.

The £0 signing who could replace Rogers at Villa

The £100m fee for Grealish was an unthinkable amount of money, with Villa’s record sale sitting at just £32.5m before his move to Manchester City was confirmed.

Cristian Benteke’s move to Liverpool in the summer of 2015 was the previous benchmark, handing the hierarchy with huge funds to improve the overall squad at Villa Park.

Aston Villa's most expensive sales of all time

A look at Aston Villa’s record departures.

Such investment has certainly allowed the club to reach the next level - as seen by their consistent finishes under Emery’s guidance in England’s top division.

However, the club have also had their fair share of financial difficulties in recent seasons, with the hierarchy having to make sacrifices to try and satisfy the league’s strict PSR rules.

Given the implications around the rules, it’s unclear how much the Villans will have to spend this summer - even if Rogers is moved on to balance the books.

However, the fans shouldn’t worry about a potential replacement, with the club needing to step up their interest in Fulham star Harry Wilson, who’s also set to leave this summer.

The Welshman has been one of the Premier League’s leading stars so far this season, but his deal at Craven Cottage is set to expire at the end of June.

He’s currently sitting on ten goals and six assists from his 29 league appearances to date - with the former of the two tallies more than any player in Emery’s current squad.

His tally of 11 goals in competitions also betters the ten that both Rogers and Ollie Watkins have achieved.

However, despite the interest, various other sides are also in the race to land the soon-to-be-free agent, with Everton another side pushing hard for his signature.

His underlying stats also highlight the quality he possesses at present, with Wilson arguably the perfect player to replace Rogers during the summer window.

The 29-year-old has created 1.3 chances per 90 this term, whilst achieving a cross success rate of 26% - a figure that places him in the top 20% of all players in the league.

The aforementioned figures demonstrate his quality within the final third, which could see Watkins hugely benefit throughout the 2026/27 campaign.

He’s also completed 54% of the dribbles he’s attempted to date, whilst registering 1.1 shots on target per 90 - reaffirming his quality with the ball in attacking areas.

Losing Rogers would be a huge blow for Villa this summer, but ultimately, it’s a decision that may have to be made to avoid any punishment for breaking financial rules.

However, a free transfer for Wilson would be an excellent deal for the Villans, subsequently allowing the fans to forget about any deal that could see the £100m man depart.
