Egypt captain Mohamed Salah appeared “devastated” and “broken” at half-time during Liverpool FC’s defeat to Manchester City on Saturday in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
This is according to City legend Joe Hart, after the Citizens hammered the Reds 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium to become the first team to reach this season’s semi-finals of the world’s oldest cup competition.
The retired goalkeeper noted Salah’s uncharacteristic lack of confidence, evident from an early missed opportunity and his body language as he headed into the tunnel while Liverpool trailed 2-0.
Salah went on to miss a penalty and was substituted, with Hart describing the performance as difficult to watch.
“We’re so used to seeing Mo Salah being a confident player. It was difficult watching him today, actually,” Hart said on Caughtoffside.
“That first opportunity he had where the block was made was a tell-tale sign. He struggled and he looked low on confidence. We saw him walking in at half-time and he was devastated. Absolutely devastated.
“We saw him come out for the second half looking completely downcast!”
Salah, 33, will be hoping to bounce back strongly, rediscover his lethal form, and deliver a standout performance to help Liverpool overcome PSG in the Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday.
