Report: How Manchester United feel about Mateus Fernandes amid Bruno Fernandes recommendation

West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes has received a glowing endorsement from Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes.

While West Ham United generally do not get much right in the transfer market, Fernandes has been an inspired addition.

Indeed, Fernandes has been brilliant for West Ham this season, and his form since joining from Southampton has been enough to see him earn a recommendation from the Manchester United star.

Man United don’t view Mateus Fernandes as a key target

According to The Sun, the Red Devils star is set to urge his club to sign Fernandes this summer.

The Old Trafford giants are keen to bolster their midfield options, with Casemiro set to leave the club this summer.

Serious question – are you taking a peak Mateus Fernandes or a peak Lucas Paqueta in your dream midfield?!

Despite the fact that Fernandes wants them to sign the West Ham star, Manchester United are not thought to see him as a primary target.

They are instead focused on signing the likes of Elliot Anderson or Sandro Tonali from Nottingham Forest or Newcastle United respectively.

Manchester City also interested in Mateus Fernandes

Interestingly, Manchester City are also said to be keen on a move for the 21-year-old.

City sporting director Hugo Viana worked with the midfielder at Sporting Lisbon and is understood to be interested.

Pep Guardiola’s side will need to replace Bernardo Silva this summer and Fernandes is believed to be one of their options.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Fernandes this summer. Even if they stay up, West Ham may need to sell players to raise funds, and the Portugal international would seem like a prime candidate on that front.

Clearly in an ideal world, the club wouldn’t cash in – but their hand may be forced no matter what happens in the final seven games of the Premier League season.

It would be a shame to see Fernandes leave so soon after joining but he could be a player upon which the club generate further funds.
