According to the renowned journalist, RB Leipzig are in talks with Yan Diomande’s new agents over a potential new deal that includes a significantly increased salary, a longer contract, and, crucially, a release clause that is currently “being considered.”
The clause would give the player a defined exit path, but the final decision will depend on the bids that arrive this summer, keeping the Premier League giants – particularly Liverpool – firmly in the picture for a player already seen as a natural successor to Mohamed Salah.
Yan Diomande has not followed the usual path to the top, but his rise now has Europe’s biggest clubs watching closely.
The 18-month journey from semi-pro football in the United States to the Bundesliga has been sharp and decisive. He first gained attention with AS Frenzi in the UPSL, where he was named the 2023 Spring National Finals MVP.
That breakthrough earned him a move to CD Leganés in 2024 where he showed early signs of his versatility, scoring two goals and adding one assist in limited appearances.
The real leap came in 2025 when RB Leipzig signed him for €21 million. Since then, he has developed into a complete attacking threat.
He has recorded 11 goals and 8 assists this season, while also ranking in the 95th percentile for Expected Assists. His physical output stands out just as much, leading the Bundesliga in duels won.
From a Liverpool perspective, the appeal is obvious. His direct style and end product closely match what Mohamed Salah has delivered for years. That is why Liverpool see him as a leading option to step into the next era.
The situation has now entered a critical phase, with multiple clubs even including Paris Saint-Germain, positioning themselves.
Manchester United have reportedly made a “concrete inquiry”, while Arsenal remain interested but cautious due to the €100 million valuation.
However, Leipzig are no longer open to a straightforward sale.
They now view Diomande as the “sporting heart” of their project and their strategy has shifted in the last 48 hours.
As Fabrizio Romano reported, “RB Leipzig are discussing new deal with Yan Diomande new agents to try keep him at the club for one more season.”
“Increased salary, longer contract… and a release clause being considered.”
“Diomande will decide also based on bids this summer.”
This proposal is Leipzig’s “compromise”as they are ready to offer improved terms and a long-term deal, but with a release clause likely delayed until 2027. It gives them control now while offering the player a clear exit path later.
Liverpool’s position remains strong. Reports from Spain claim a “full agreement” on personal terms is already in place, with the player “delighted” by the chance to replace Salah.
The decision now rests with the player. The summer bids will define whether he stays for one more year or makes the move immediately.
