Manchester United want to keep hold of Bruno Fernandes, but eventually, Ineos will need to find a replacement for the Portuguese star.
Last summer, Bruno Fernandes came close to leaving Manchester United when a £100m Saudi Pro League offer arrived.
But Ineos desperately want to keep Fernandes and build around the Red Devils captain to push for a Premier League title charge by 2028.
It is no secret that United will eventually need a replacement, though. While many view Cole Palmer as Fernandes’ replacement, it seems Fernandes himself wants to see Mateus Fernandes at Old Trafford.

Bruno Fernandes wants Man Utd to sign Mateus Fernandes
United will undergo a midfield overhaul in the upcoming summer transfer window, and it seems Elliot Anderson is top of the shopping list.
But Mateus Fernandes compares well to Anderson, and he could be a much cheaper option for central midfield.
According to The Sun, Bruno Fernandes is set to recommend the signing of Mateus Fernandes to United as his long-term successor.

West Ham’s Fernandes said Bruno Fernandes is his “idol” having played with him in the Portugal national team and also followed his footsteps by breaking through at Sporting Lisbon.
“Back when I was at Sporting, I looked up to him and tried to learn from him. He plays in the same league as me, he has a lot of experience with the national team, and, in the Premier League, I try to watch him a lot. Without a doubt, he stands out,” Mateus Fernandes said.

£104m West Ham news could help Man Utd sign Mateus Fernandes
United are expected to sign (at least) two central midfielders this summer, and Ineos have had success hiring from within the Premier League.
West Ham are on the brink of relegation to the Championship with seven league games remaining in 2025/26. If they drop down a league, they could be forced to sell Fernandes at a slashed price.

On top of that, The Sun report from above adds that West Ham have recorded club-record losses of £104 million. The Hammers will need to balance their books, and that means key players could be sold.
Mateus Fernandes has appeared in all of West Ham’s Premier League matches this season, scoring three goals and providing three assists from midfield.
