Leeds United injury and Gudmundsson absence explained ahead of West Ham United FA Cup clash

Leeds United are without a couple of first-team players at the London Stadium.

Leeds United have lost an attacker to a groin strain for the next couple of weeks and decided not to take risks with a second star at West Ham in the FA Cup due to a fresh injury concern.

When Daniel Farke named his squad for the FA Cup quarter-final clash at the London Stadium he was unable to include Wales international Dan James. The winger has endured a stop-start season due to a number of injuries, the most serious of which was a hamstring tendon problem.

He did feature for Wales in the international break, in both of their fixtures, but has missed out at West Ham due to an adductor strain. It is expected to keep him out for a couple of weeks.

The other notable absentee is Gabriel Gudmundsson. The Swede helped his country qualify for the World Cup through the play-offs last week but having reported a minor groin problem ahead of the FA Cup tie, the left wing-back has not been risked. Instead Farke has gone with James Justin again on the left side, with Jayden Bogle in his customary right wing-back slot.

There is also no place for loanee Facundo Buonanotte in the squad to face West Ham United. The Brighton attacker has missed out on the matchday squads for the last five Premier League games. His last appearance came on February 15 when he started against Birmingham City in the FA Cup before being withdrawn at the break.
