Newcastle eye Man City’s Rico Lewis as replacement for Kieran Trippier – Report

**Newcastle United now know that they have to replace Kieran Trippier before next season, with the veteran defender set to leave the club in the summer.**

The writing had been on the wall for Trippier as the end of this season drew near, and no contract offer was on the table, but on Saturday, [the player himself confirmed that he will move on](https://www.nufcblog.co.uk/2026/04/04/kieran-trippier-says-emotional-goodbye-and-will-leave-newcastle-united-this-summer/) when his current deal expires.

As well as Trippier, there’s a very real possibility that Newcastle may lose Tino Livramento in the summer, with Manchester City thought to be very keen to sign the 23-year-old.

Regardless of that deal, however, Newcastle have their eye on one of Man City’s players themselves.

Rico Lewis is thought to be someone that Newcastle could look to try and sign in the summer after the 21-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at the Etihad.

The five-times capped England star is expected to be available for transfer in the summer, and Newcastle could make a move, according to [The Chronicle](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/rico-lewis-real-madrid-teenager-33718809), who insist that Newcastle’s interest in Lewis is entirely separate to whatever may happen with Tino Livramento.

City are expected to demand in excess of £30 million for Lewis, however, who has a contract that runs until 2030.

While we sincerely hope we don’t lose Livramento to City this summer, his switch could massively grease the wheels for this one to happen. Livramento’s arrival at City would push Lewis further down the rankings, making him even more keen to move.

Newcastle could even ask for Lewis as part of the deal that takes Livramento the other way, so it may be separate now, they could be intertwined in the summer.

Ideally, of course, Newcastle would hang on to Tino and add Rico Lewis, but we just can’t shake this feeling that Tino’s already got one foot out of the door.
