The Whites applied the majority of pressure in the opening quarter of an hour, infiltrating the hosts half on more then one occasion, most notably with low crosses coming from both full-backs Sommerton and Morgan.
However, it was the Stags who had the first big chance of the afternoon after a free-kick was chipped to the left-hand side of the area, lobbed across the face of goal and struck goal-bound, but the skipper was able to clear the danger before it crossed the line.
The flow of the first half was slightly disrupted by a persistent knee injury for the hosts as full-back Grante was substituted before the half-hour mark.
After more spells of possession, the Whites could feel hard-done by in the 41st minute as Totton were able to grab the opener through Lee, as he became unmarked in the box to easily steer the ball into the net.
Coming out from the break, Salisbury felt the need to be proactive after going 1-0 down as they made the double change of Odokonyero and Keeya for an already cautioned Ogunleye and Jolliffe, who struggled to get into the game.
And, in under ten minutes, Salisbury were back level through Willard after a Coppin strike was parried into the path of the forward who smashed the ball home into the roof of the Totton net to score his second goal in two games.
After the equaliser, the fixture became an end-to-end affair, as both sides didn’t look to settle for the point.
Chances came and went for Brian Dutton’s side, however the final pass struggled to find its target to take the lead.
Unfortunately for the visitors, Totton took the lead through Ward after he found space in the area from a corner to volley past Buse with 15 minutes remaining.
The Whites had chances to level with a couple goalmouth scrambles towards the dying embers of the tie, but that slice of fortune didn’t come their way and Totton saw out their victory.
