When West Ham managed to score twice in the space of three minutes, many Leeds United fans thought the cup tie would end in disaster. After having a 2-0 lead as at 75 minutes, they thought they had won the game.
But the pressure from the Hammers in the second half proved to be too much, and broke their resolve late in the game. The tie went to extra time, where West Ham scored early in the first half but the goal was ruled out. Leeds managed to hold on for the rest of extra time, taking the game to penalties. Ultimately, the heroics of Lucas Perri sent the Whites to the semi-final.

The Brazilian saved the Hammers’ first penalty taken by Jarrod Bowen, and then saved Pablo Felipe’s effort as Pascal Struijk scored his penalty to win the tie. After the game, Jermaine Beckford and Joe Cole praised Perri for his performance.
“What a goalkeeper, Joe mentioned. He’s Brazil’s number three; the two players that are ahead of him are Ederson and Alisson. When you look at the size of Lucas Perri, he’s humongous. His wingspan is humongous. He was standing in front of the goal, he was standing in front of the goal with his arms stretched above him and his wrists were almost touching the crossbar! Great penalty saving and great awareness.” Beckford said on TNT Sports.
Joe Cole also added: “He made a mistake for the (offside) goal, which can play on a goalkeeper’s mind, so he showed good mental strength as well.”

Lucas Perri has responded really well since Daniel Farke’s decision
Lucas Perri came in this summer as the number one goalkeeper, with the club finding a solution for the position. Illan Meslier’s errors almost saw the Whites miss out on winning the Championship last season. Perri had a decent start to the campaign, but picked up an injury. He came back into the fold, then started making blunders near the end of last year. Daniel Farke then made the decision to bench the Brazilian; Perri has been the backup choice since.
But the 28-year old has taken it well; he has been the first choice during this FA Cup run and he has proved that he is still a quality keeper. His performances in the last few rounds point to the fact that he can earn his place back in the team. Farke will be impressed with these games, but for now, Darlow is firmly the number one at the moment.
