FSG fly Liverpool officials out to make in-person checks on exciting £50m Salah replacement -…

With Mohamed Salah set to leave this summer, FSG have now sent Liverpool officials to make in-person checks on a potential replacement for the Egyptian.

Van Dijk admits Liverpool "let fans down" in Man City defeat

Virgil van Dijk is beginning to sound like a broken record at Liverpool. With every week and every frustrating defeat, the Dutchman is forced to speak about intensity and the lack of it, as well as defensive lapses and a one-dimensional attack which is failing to drag the Reds to victory time and time again.

Saturday was no different. Even after a positive start, all it took was one lapse from the Liverpool captain, who fouled Nico O'Reilly, to signal the start of a collapse. One Erling Haaland goal quickly turned to three and Antoine Semenyo added one more to humiliate Arne Slot's side.

Van Dijk, for the umpteenth time this season, could only apologise - telling reporters: "I can only apologise to the fans for what we have shown, especially the second half.

"Obviously you come out with the right intentions from the dressing room, to hopefully score for 2-1 as soon as possible to change the game.

"The opposite happens and to come back from 3-0 is obviously very difficult here – but also you shouldn’t give up and that’s maybe, at a certain point, what happened.

Liverpool could forget Xabi Alonso by firing Arne Slot for this former Premier League boss.

"We let our fans down, we let ourselves down, and the manager. The way we played in the second half, especially, must hurt for everyone. It definitely hurts me."

Salah's penalty miss only added to Liverpool's misery, whilst also sending a timely reminder about how much the Reds need to find a new talisman this summer.

Liverpool officials make in-person checks on Akliouche

With that in mind, FSG sent Liverpool officials to make in-person checks on Maghnes Akliouche last weekend, according to TeamTalk. The Anfield chiefs watched on as the winger's AS Monaco side defeated Marseille 2-1 on the day.

Valued at £50m by previous reports, whether the Frenchman did enough to impress on the day remains the big question. At 24 years old, he should be on the verge of reaching the peak of his powers and is certainly rated highly around European football.

Dubbed "brilliant" by talent scout Jacek Kulig, it would be some ask for Akliouche to replace Salah, but he may offer Liverpool a different threat entirely.

Rather than an inside forward with killer instinct in front of goal, Akliouche is more of a natural creator, who can play both centrally and out wide.

Having scored seven goals and assisted another eight in all competitions this season, it's easy to see why FSG have made their first move in pursuit of his arrival.
