Man United are expected to invest in their midfield in the summer transfer window.

Michael Carrick will be delighted with how things are going at Old Trafford for him. It isn’t clear yet whether he will take over as the next Man United boss permanently, but many believe that he will be offered the job.

Whether Carrick is in charge or not, Man United are expected to invest heavily in their midfield in the summer. Casemiro is due to leave, and Manuel Ugarte has also been linked with a move away ahead of the summer.

They could reportedly target one of Aston Villa’s midfielders to try to replace Casemiro in the summer transfer window.

Man United eye Onana deal

Aston Villa’s Amadou Onana could be in line for a big money deal in the summer, and according to fresh reports, Man United are considering a move for the 24-year-old Belgian midfielder as they look to replace Casemiro.

According to Football Insider, Onana is attracting interest from several clubs around Europe, including Man United and Barcelona, who want to strengthen in midfield ahead of a hopeful Champions League campaign next season.

The report says that any deal for Onana could cost around £50m, which is a lot, but he has Premier League and Champions league experience, and could bring an element of physicality to Carrick’s midfield.

Onana could replace Ugarte

Ugarte has struggled since coming to Man United in 2024. The Uruguay international has become a footnote in midfield, especially under Carrick, and the midfielder’s future is now uncertain ahead of the summer transfer window.

Man United are considering a sale for Ugarte in the summer, and they value him at £35m, and hope to offload him to boost their transfer funds and wage budget. If they sell Ugarte, they can use the money to invest back into the midfield for one of their top targets.

The report says that there is interest in Ugarte despite his poor form. Newcastle and Aston Villa are both reportedly keen on the midfielder as far as the Premier League goes. It is also understood that Serie A giants Juventus are keen on Ugarte too, and could make a move for the 24-year-old.
