Liverpool have made “initial enquiries” for Paris Saint-Germain trio Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Bradley Barcola, and Desire Doue, as well as Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise, according to reports.

However, TEAMtalk claims that the approaches were “rebuffed” by their respective clubs, leaving the Reds to seek out alternatives as they target Mo Salah’s potential successor.

It is believed that the recruitment team has turned their attention towards Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche as a possible option.

The 24-year-old is closing in on the final two years of his contract, and Monaco expect to receive offers for him this summer.

Other Premier League clubs want Akliouche

Manchester United have also reportedly considered making a move for the France international. The Red Devils want to strengthen their left flank at the end of the season.

Akliouche generally plays most of his football on the right wing as he is left-footed, so it remains to be seen if United prioritise a move for him or someone like RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, who would be a better fit.

Liverpool can’t directly replace Salah

There is no one (other than Olise) playing in the top European leagues who is both left-footed and capable of producing double figures for goals and assists.

It makes finding a replacement for the Egyptian King very difficult. Akliouche does have plenty of good qualities. He can beat his man and expose opposition defences, but he is not particularly prolific.

The Frenchman has scored 7 goals and contributed 8 assists for Monaco this campaign. They are not bad numbers, but even in his worst campaign for the club, Salah has better figures than that (10 goals and 9 assists). Buy a Salah Liverpool shirt from Fanatics here.

If the Reds do actively pursue Akliouche, it would suggest that a decision has been made to add goals (and assists) in other positions as well.
