Parker has come under plenty of scrutiny this season amid a worrying run that has seen Burnley win just one of their last 22 league games.

With only seven games remaining, it leaves the Clarets 10 points adrift of safety.

Despite the calls for the club to act, Parker remains in situ – with the under-fire Burnley boss insisting he retains the support of Alan Pace and the board.

“It seems he's here to stay now, at least until the end of the season,” Little told the Burnley Express. “I don't see the point in changing a manager now.

“If you had made a change before Christmas, then maybe it might have been a bit harsh, but I could have understood it. But you've stuck with him.

“To me, it seems the players are still behind him though. I don't look at this team as downing tools or anything. I just think they’re maybe not quite good enough.

“But there have been plenty of occasions where they could have turned it in, like when they went 1-0 down early on against Chelsea and you’re thinking it will end four or five. Then they come from behind to draw at Anfield. The game against Manchester United at the Turf, the Palace game, Brentford and so on.

“So I still feel, yes, we've had some disappointing performances, like Sunderland and Everton away, which were really poor performances. But in the main, I still feel they're having a go.”

With Burnley heading back to the Championship, Little also feels they have the perfect man to get them back at the first attempt.

He added: “Let's be fair, in the summer two years ago when we went down, there would have been lots of people wanting that Burnley job and who did they give it to? They gave it to Scott Parker.

“Why? Because he had a 100 per cent record of winning promotion. So why would you get rid of someone who you know can win you promotion from the Championship when he’s already done it with Fulham and Bournemouth and you’ve also seen it first-hand with Burnley with 100 points and they only lost two games all season?

“Whereas my worry would be, if you sacked him now and you stick someone else in, he comes in with different views, different ideas, maybe different tactics, a different formation. You don't win a game, then you start next season and say you're 10 games in and you've won twice and you're 17th, you’re already looking at making another change, aren’t you? Then it’s a real mess.

“Whereas if you’re looking for stability, do you think: ‘well, we’ll keep Scott Parker, let's see how he gets on in the first 10 games’?.”
