Sunderland are reportedly tracking three key targets worth a combined £67million as Florent Ghisolfi shapes an ambitious summer rebuild
Sunderland are being linked with a number of high-profile moves ahead of the summer transfer window, with reports suggesting Florent Ghisolfi could oversee a significant triple spend as the club prepares for its next phase in the Premier League.
According to TEAMtalk, Manchester City’s Rico Lewis is weighing up his future amid concerns over limited game time. The 21-year-old, valued at around £44million, is understood to be keen on securing regular football to protect his England ambitions despite signing a long-term deal last year. Sunderland are listed among a host of interested clubs, alongside Newcastle United, Everton, Fulham, Crystal Palace, Brentford and Brighton, in what could become one of the summer’s most competitive pursuits.
TEAMtalk also reports that Sunderland are monitoring Blackburn Rovers defender Tom Atcheson, who is valued at around £10million. The 19-year-old has emerged as a regular since making his senior debut in December and has quickly attracted attention from across the Premier League. Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle are also said to be tracking his development, highlighting the level of competition for one of the Championship’s most promising young defenders.
Further forward, Sunderland’s long-standing interest in Almeria playmaker Sergio Arribas could yet materialise. As relayed by Sport Witness, the 24-year-old attacking midfielder remains on the club’s radar and is valued at around £13million. Ghisolfi is believed to be a long-term admirer, and a move could be revisited as Sunderland look to add creativity and depth in attacking areas. Should Sunderland push ahead with deals for Lewis, Atcheson and Arribas, it would represent a combined outlay in the region of £67million - a potential statement of intent under Ghisolfi as he continues to reshape the squad.
There is also a potential outgoing to factor into the equation. According to Football Insider, Chelsea are showing strong interest in Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs ahead of the summer window. The 23-year-old, who has established himself as the club’s number one, is reportedly valued at up to £60million, with Liverpool and Manchester City also monitoring his situation. The Dutchman is expected to return to Sunderland’s starting XI after the international break, having missed several weeks with an injury.
