Zamora reveals how he hopes to help Welbeck get to the World Cup

The former Albion and England centre-forward has been working closely with Welbeck and other forwards on the training ground at Lancing.

He was disappointed to see Welbeck miss out on the latest England squad as Thomas Tuchel looks towards North America this summer.

But, in the absence of Harry Kane, England looked short of an attacking focal point in friendlies against Uruguay and Japan.

Welbeck would potentially offer England goals, all-round team play and a positive influence off the pitch and Zamora’s department is the first of those.

He told The Argus: “For me, when we get back together after the international break, it's sitting down with him and saying, ‘Look, how can we get you in that England squad?’.

“How can we make it that they cannot say No to him and how many goals is that going to be?

“And then it's working almost backwards from that.

“Right, you're going to need X amount of chances per game. Where are these chances going to come from?

“Who are the main suppliers for you?

“Currently, over the last couple of weeks, it has come from crosses and can we focus on that?

“How can we hone that? Hone your finishing within that area, hone your movement within that area and understanding the quality of crosses that come from (Yankuba) Minteh on the left-hand side.

“Is he going to be putting it back post? Probably not. So it's getting across that front post.

“There's lots of different parts that we can look at and we can work on.

“But Danny has certainly been in a fantastic vein of form and long may it continue.”

Zamora’s work also involves forwards such as Georginio Rutter and Charalampos Kostoulas.

He added: “We sort of play with one real striker up top and then there's a couple of options behind and Danny is certainly embracing this season as he did last season. He's in fantastic form.”

Bobby Zamora spoke to The Argus on a visit to Haywards Heath Town FC to highlight the contribution made across 25 years by the Premier League Stadium Fund to non-league and women's football.
