What major Liverpool journalists are saying about Arne Slot's imminent exit from Anfield

There has been a major narrative shift among reporters closely linked with Liverpool FC since they lost 4-0 to Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-final on Sunday.

A large number of the 7,000+ Liverpool fans that travelled to the Etihad Stadium left early, introducing me to a new phrase: “They voted with their feet.”

A fanbase known for its loyalty in the face of adversity showed in the most inarguable way how they feel about Slot remaining in charge of the club.

Since full-time, the narrative surrounding has shifted from FSG backing Slot to turn things around to the stage being set for his dismissal in the short term.

What trusted journalists are saying about Arne Slot’s future at Anfield

The likes of Paul Joyce and James Pearce were far more outspoken about Slot’s future on Monday than they have been all season.

Writing for the Times very late on Sunday evening, Joyce said: “Arne Slot must find a way out of this mess to ease the pressure, but the chances of straightening everything out are far more complicated when his squad effectively confesses it picks and chooses when to perform.

“Jürgen Klopp occasionally had to rant at his Liverpool squad and, when he did so, he carried a fear factor that left no one in any doubt about the direction of travel. “

Writing on Monday morning for the Athletic, James Pearce said: “The mitigating factors have been well documented, but the manager continues to haemorrhage support among the fanbase. Some pointedly chanted the name of Xabi Alonso, as they made their way out of the Etihad.

“Fenway Sports Group wants to give Arne Slot the chance to put things right next season, but that position will be untenable if the campaign completely unravels in the coming weeks. Now it’s Champions League or bust.”

Henry Winter wrote on X: “Sight of so many Liverpool fans leaving the Etihad early was telling and very damaging forArne Slot. Usually defiant fans now voting with their feet. Understandable frustration: results poor, performances poorer, stars fading, team drifting, manager struggling.

“Slot rightly has some remaining credit in the bank because of last season but he has to get Liverpool into the Champions League either through winning it – unlikely as PSG up next – or league finish. Champions League qualification is vital to owners. Huge financial return. Whatever happens against PSG, the decision on Slot’s future should be taken in the summer – when CL future decided.”

Top investigative football journalist Romain Molina reports via YouTube that Liverpool are planning for next season without Arne Slot in mind. He claims Slot is expected to leave.

One of the best French investigative journalists Romain Molina says #LFC is planning well for next season with Arne Slot expected to depart & Xabi Alonso the replacement. Also says FSG is also looking at Belgium clubs as part of ownership. They looked at Nantes, Monaco, Bordeaux,… https://t.co/fe2IrTydwH

Arne Slot will need a miracle to keep his Liverpool job

It’s worth noting that Liverpool fans don’t wish to see Slot to lose his job and suffer what every manager goes through when sacked, but his position has become untenable.

Liverpool have regressed heavily each month since November and while Slot stopped the losing streak which saw them lose nine of 12 games, there has been no real improvement tactically or mentally.

It’s quite surprising that FSG let it get this far given the financial risks at hand, but a defeat to PSG on Wednesday now seems likely to be the final straw if it occurs.
