The relegation battle is front and centre of West Ham’s thinking now as the Irons embark upon what Jarrod Bowen called their ‘seven cup finals’ to save their Premier League status. Twenty one points are up for grabs and whichever of the bottom four strings a mini run together with say, four wins and twelve points will, in all likelihood save their season.
However much the Hammers focus on the next seven games it hasn’t stopped the summer transfer rumours starting already.
Whilst West Ham’s players and coaching staff concentrate on events on the pitch, the Hammers’ dismal finances and relegation crisis makes it a simple equation to expect that another of the club’s ‘crown jewels’ will be up for grabs come the summer transfer window.
Fernandes – impressive performances attracting interest from top sides in the Premier League and beyond
Caughtoffside.com seem to think ‘their source’ is on the money with an ‘exclusive‘ suggesting Liverpool have already held a transfer ‘meeting’ with Mateus Fernandes’ representatives.

Actually this is nothing new, as we reported last month, Fernandes will 100% leave if West Ham are relegated.
What is interesting though is that the price quoted in ‘reports’ is skyrocketing:
“Sources: Liverpool have held transfer “meeting” with £55m star’s agents”
Is the ‘caughtoffside’ headline. This price is skyrocketing from the £38.5 m plus add-ons that West Ham paid Southampton.
In a ‘worst case’ forced-sale scenario the Hammers will look to do far better: Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool – plus half the top teams in Europe claim to have “Fernandes on their radar’, especially now he’s made his senior Portugal debut.
An important note for supporters: Many, however, don’t see West Ham selling him if – and it’s a big ‘if’ – the club survive in the Premier League.
Another year and he’ll be Declan Rice money and David Sullivan, whatever else, is no mug.
Twelve months to add forty million to the young midfielder’s value is a no-brainer; So Hammers fans can plan to enjoy ‘Matty’ for another season if the 2025/6 ‘Great Escape 2.0‘ miracle becomes a reality.
