April 7 – The mood around Anfield is turning, and not in the way the club would like. Amid a crisis on the pitch, Liverpool supporters’ union Spirit of Shankly (SOS) has confirmed protests “inside and outside Anfield,” beginning with Fulham’s visit this weekend, in response to planned ticket price rises that many fans see as tone-deaf in a difficult economic climate.

Last month it was announced general admission tickets would rise in line with inflation for the next three seasons, in spite of discussions with the Supporters’ Board, which called for a freeze. That will mean a 3% rise from 2026–27, adding between £1.25 and £1.75 per match and up to £27 on season tickets. The club points to rising costs as matchday operations at Anfield are up 85% since 2016–17.

However, SOS said: “The direction is clear: protests will take place. If the club does not value supporter voices, we will make ourselves difficult to ignore.

“If the club wants to take more from supporters, then supporters can give less back,” the group said, calling for fans to avoid spending inside the ground and instead support local businesses. There’s also a push to delay season ticket renewals to “send a message.”

SOS warned: “This will not be limited to one game… it will escalate. If it goes unchallenged, it sets a precedent. Not just for Liverpool, but across the game.”
