Barton further remanded into custody

Joey Barton has been further remanded into custody.

Judge Menary adjourned the case and said:

> "In relation to both defendants, Mr Barton and Mr O'Grady, I will fix a trial date, beginning on the 1st of September this year. The next hearing so far as you are concerned, Mr O’Grady, will be heard on the 3rd of June. "You are required to be here on that date. Mr Barton, you are not required for that hearing. "Mr Barton, you must remain in custody. In your case, Mr O’Grady, I renew your bail on the same conditions as previously. That concludes this hearing. "Mr O'Grady, you are free to go. Mr Brady, you are free to go with the officer."

O'Grady to appear in court in June

Gary O'Grady will face a further hearing on June 3 instead.

Barton to face trial later this year

Barton will not stand trial beginning on September 1. It will begin on September 1.

O'Grady will not be arraigned today upon equest from his defence counsel.

Barton appears on video link from prison

Barton has been brought onto the video link from HMP Liverpool. He is wearing a grey Columbia tracksuit top and glasses, sporting short greying hair and a goatee.

O'Grady in dock

The case hsa been called on now, and around a dozen members of the press are in court. O'Grady is taken into the dock wearing a beige t-shirt and jeans. He has short, dark hair.

Case to begin

The case has begun in courtroom 41 at Liverpool Crown Court.

Graham Rishton is appearing for the prosectuion, whilst Barton is represented by Simon Csoka KC. Co-defendant Gary O'Grady is defended by Mr Shahza, with the hearing to be presided over by the Honorary Recorder of Liverpool Judge Andrew Menary KC.

Alleged victim

Kevin Lynch, the alleged victim in the attack, is well-known across Merseyside. He previously managed Marine, City of Liverpool FC and Prescot Cables.

It is understood that Lynch is a member of the golf club. He is also the founder and headteacher of NexGen Academy in Dovecot, Merseyside, a school for children with additional needs.

Last court appearance

On March 20, David Potter refused a bail application for Barton at Liverpool Crown Court. The majorty of the bail hearing was held in private, though the judge announced his ruling in open court.

Barton was not in attendance but was represented by Simon Csoka KC. After Barton and O'Grady's first appearance at Liverpool Magistrates' Court on March 10, O'Grady was released on conditional bail.

Good morning, we will bring you news from Liverpool Crown Court this morning as former Newcastle player Joey Barton appears in court.

He is accused of assaulting former football manager Kevin Lynch near Huyton and Prescot Golf Club on Sunday, March 8, alongside co-defendant Gary O'Grady, 50, of Huyton.
