Liverpool preparing offer for €40m attacking midfielder – Trying to get there first

Liverpool

Liverpool’s recruitment model has repeatedly leaned towards South America when identifying young talent with long-term upside, and that strategy appears to be active again with Palmeiras’ Erick Belé.

The 19-year-old is still on the fringes of senior football, yet already sits in that familiar bracket Liverpool tend to monitor early – players combining youth-level output with first-team exposure and strong physical profiles.

Internally at the Brazilian side, there is a clear sense he is not being prepared for a quick exit, but rather for a controlled rise in value.

That context is important before getting into the latest developments coming out of Brazil.

Why Liverpool are interested in transfer

From a stylistic perspective, Erick Belé ticks several boxes Premier League clubs prioritise.

He’s an attacking midfielder with an eye for a goal that made him really stand out at youth level. Left-footed, he can operate across all areas of midfield, and combines acceleration with a willingness to attack space.

In addition, Palmeiras sources highlight his decision-making and physical maturity as standout traits for his age. That’s why he is already transitioning to senior level. And that’s why he was called up to compete in the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup last September.

This season, the midfielder has scored six goals and provided one assist in 12 matches, considering appearances for both the professional team and the U-20 team. Those numbers are not yet explosive, but they fit the profile of a player still transitioning between levels.

Liverpool’s interest therefore feels consistent rather than opportunistic. They have previously moved early for players in similar development phases, aiming to secure value before it peaks.

Race for an attacking gem

Reports from both ESPN Brazil and RTI Esporte indicate Liverpool are one of three European sides actively tracking Erick Belé, alongside Paris Saint-Germain and Parma.

Early signals from Europe point towards offers in the region of £17.2m (€20m), but Palmeiras are not engaging at that level. Liverpool are preparing an offer around that level.

Instead, the Brazilian club are working with a much higher internal valuation. Their expectation is closer to £34.4m (€40m), and that figure is not arbitrary.

Palmeiras believe increased minutes in the first team this season will push the player into that bracket naturally.

Palmeiras building value rather than selling early

Erick Belé is under contract until December 2028, which immediately removes urgency from Palmeiras’ position. On top of that, his release clause for foreign clubs is set at around £51.6m (€60m), a figure designed to discourage opportunistic approaches.

As previously explained, there is also a structured development plan in place. Palmeiras want him gradually integrated into manager Abel Ferreira’s senior squad, rather than remaining a standout at youth level only. That pathway has already started, with appearances during their 2026 state title-winning campaign.

His recent international exposure has only added to the momentum. While away with Brazil’s U20 side, he scored twice in two matches against Paraguay.

What happens next

Erick Belé is not expected to leave Palmeiras unless a significantly higher offer arrives. The current £17.2m (€20m) signals are being treated as a starting point, not a serious threat.

Acting now likely requires stretching towards Palmeiras’ valuation. Waiting, on the other hand, opens the door for competition to intensify, particularly with PSG’s financial strength and Parma’s growing role as a development platform. So Liverpool will have a bit of a dilemma towards the summer.

Palmeiras, meanwhile, are comfortable with the situation. Their strategy is to increase exposure, raise the ceiling, and only negotiate once the market aligns with their expectations.
