Tottenham tussling with Aston Villa for €30m defender who could replace Van de Ven this summer

Micky van de Ven’s future at Tottenham remains uncertain.

Tottenham have been struggling on the defensive side of things all season, and it has not been just about conceding chances but more about the manner of them.

This has been one of the core reasons behind Spurs’ positioning around that relegation zone going into the final stretch of the season. And that is what will be top three on Roberto De Zerbi’s to-do list as he takes up his training routine at Hotspur Way this week.

Tottenham planning for Van de Ven departure

But as the former Brighton man looks to add a bit of structure to resolve the defensive problems, there is a growing belief that either one or both of the Lilywhites’ first-choice centre-back duo of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero will be looking to leave Spurs when summer comes around.

And the chiefs at Hotspur Way are already preparing a blueprint if that were to happen, as they recognise the 23-year-old Bosnian international to replace Micky van de Ven when summer comes around.

Tottenham looking at Tarik Muharemovic

According to a recent report from Tuttosport (as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham are ‘vying’ to sign Sassuolo centre back Tarik Muharemovic.

Muharemovic enjoyed an inspiring international stage, given he had an impressive outing for Bosnia in their win against ten-man Italy, and that game did more than just underline his potential; he announced himself and showed the fact that he is ready to play at the elite level.

He was not only composed when under pressure but was also quite aggressive going into duels (two things that are quite necessary to operate under De Zerbi). What Tottenham’s new head coach will like the most is his calmness in possession, which fits neatly into the demands that RDZ puts on his defenders, especially in the first phase of build-up play.

But Tottenham are not alone in the race, with Aston Villa also having established interest in his signature. The Premier League duo will be met by Juventus and Inter Milan in his pursuit as well, making it quite an ideal situation for Sassuolo, who are looking for a €30m fee for his signature. There are barely any indications that Sassuolo will compromise on the fee, especially given interest from multiple elite clubs.

We will see where this goes in the summer, but it looks like Tottenham are preparing for a possible Van de Ven departure with Tarik Muharemovic. Would you take him at N17? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
