Man United could swap one of their midfielders with an Aston Villa player to upgrade.
Man United’s biggest priority in the summer will be to upgrade their midfield. It looks as though they will qualify for the Champions League, and so Michael Carrick will be keen to strengthen the middle of the park and improve in the summer.
The Red Devils are also keen on the likes of Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson. However, now, there is a name emerging from Aston Villa.
Man United keen on Amadou Onana
Aston Villa’s Amadou Onana could be in line for a big money deal in the summer, and according to fresh reports, Man United are considering a move for the 24-year-old Belgian midfielder as they look to replace Casemiro.
The reports say that any deal for Onana could cost around £50m, which is a lot, but he has Premier League and Champions League experience, and could bring an element of physicality to Carrick’s midfield.
Man United could swap Ugarte for Onana
Several reports have also claimed that Manuel Ugarte could be sold this summer to free up some transfer budget, as the Uruguay international has struggled to make much of an impact at Old Trafford.
Man United would likely have to add at least £10m to sweeten the deal, but it seems a stunning move for the Red Devils, and it would see them not only upgrade in midfield but get a very good return for Ugarte, who has been poor since joining the club in 2024.
Ugarte himself would likely back the move too, because he would still get European football at Villa Park, but more game time, as he would have less competition for places. Plus, it could be a chance for him to rebuild his Premier League career, a no-brainer all around.
