Young Newcastle stars stun PSG to win another tournament – The future looks bright

Just over a week ago, Newcastle United’s Under 15s beat Manchester City in the final of the Premier League International Tournament down at Chelsea’s training ground.

As well as lifting the trophy, the young Magpies also walked away with Muawiya Ghanem named the Player of the Tournament.

Fast forward to the Easter weekend, the youngsters were in the Netherlands and bringing home the glory again, this time in the Orange Veins Cup Rotterdam.

The lads needed a penalty shoot-out to beat PSG in the final after a 1-1 draw, but they kept their nerve and goalkeeper Lucas Flack coming up trumps.

Once again, Muawiya Ghanem was a standout, scoring the goal against the French side, but it was another Toon youngster who scooped the Player of the Tournament gong this time.

Charlie Robinson picked up that award after also scoring four goals in the tournament, including a few absolute crackers from range.

The youngsters managed two wins and two draws in the group stage before going on to stage a comeback 3-1 win over Borussia Monchengladbach in the semi-final.

Well in, lads!

Head coach Graeme Coulson spoke to Newcastle’s official website and reflected on a massive couple of weeks for the team.

“It’s been a brilliant couple of weeks for the boys.

“To win the Premier League International Tournament last weekend and then come to Rotterdam and lift the Orange Veins Cup is something that they should be really proud of and beating top sides along the way shows the strides they’re making as a group.

“These trips are massive for their growth. Playing against elite teams from across Europe in new environments really stretches them and you can see how much they take from it.

“Most importantly, they’ve represented the club in the right way on and off the pitch and been a real credit to the club and their families.”

The future is certainly looking bright at Newcastle.
