Charitable artist: Davey Brown
For fans of Ted Lasso, portraiture and charity, artist Davey Brown is hosting a charity art exhibition and auction of his work in Richmond and Crystal Palace this summer.
The exhibition is taking place at two of the hit TV programme’s most recognisable locations: the Prince’s Head pub in Richmond, where the exhibition is being held on July 23, and at Crystal Palace FC’s Selhurst Park ground on July 24.
Brown will be selling his hand-painted portraits of Ted Lasso characters, with two being placed in a special auction.
Brown gave up his job as a decorator due to bad arthritis 12 years ago. Newcastle-based Brown turned to an old hobby he’d neglected due to his art teacher’s discouraging comments.
With a reinvigorated love for his craft, he experimented with portraiture of his favourite artists and athletes. Using acrylic paints, he masterfully depicts the subject’s most discrete features and emotions. He uses a low-value range for high-contrast yet beautifully detailed pieces.
The idea for this exhibition came to Brown after a visit to The Prince’s Head with his son last November. Brown enjoys the show as a football fan, and for its feel-good humour, but what stands out to him is its sensitive and accurate depiction of anxiety. Brown is very candid about his own struggles with mental health, particularly anxiety, and so much of his adoration of the show comes from his struggles being represented and validated on such a huge scale.
The exhibition will house 42 paintings – 40 will be for sale while two will be auctioned.

Brown is donating all of the proceeds, shared between four charities: one chosen by each venue (Harlequins RFC Foundation and Palace for Life), one chosen by himself (Great Ormond Street Hospital), and one to be chosen by the Mayor of Richmond after the local elections in May.
As well as this, Brown is producing an official event programme, in which businesses in and around Richmond and Croydon can pay to place advertisements.
Brown is excited by the opportunity to showcase his work, whilst being able to help some very good causes. The exhibitions will not be ticketed and entry will be free on both days.
