Jamie Carragher says David Moyes has a ‘terrible’ tactic at Everton that is ‘embarrassing’

The quality of football in the Premier League this season has been under the microscope as several teams adopt a more direct approach, and Everton have now received another complaint from Jamie Carragher.

Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens criticised Everton for the manner in which they attempted to overpower him during that 1-0 defeat at the Hill Dickinson Stadium back in February, as David Moyes instructed his players to get around the Belgian and put pressure on him.

Carragher has now revisited that moment on the Fan Debate for The Overlap – calling Everton “embarrassing” for what he felt was practically “wrestling” inside the box.

How we could do with one of these guys right now! 😫

Jamie Carragher says Everton were involved in a “terrible look” for the Premier League

Discussing the manner in which Everton piled players around Lammens, the 48-year-old said: “It was the Lammens (game) – Man United against Everton. It’s the Premier League. It’s going out across the world and you’re seeing… you actually count how many players are in the six yard box and you’re getting up to like 16, 17, 18 players… it’s just a terrible look.

“I understand managers will go, well I don’t care, it’s about if I can get a goal there…but it’s a terrible look for football, just all this wrestling in the box and all this blocking the goal…It’s wrestling in the six yard box. In the Premier League, the elite of football, it’s embarrassing really.”

Honestly, who cares? Not Everton fans, that’s for sure.

At a time where people still reminisce about the days where Rory Delap could launch a throw into the box better than most players could deliver a corner, we have no idea why a more direct style of play is now being criticised.

The ultimate aim of football is to score a goal. Everton are taking full advantage of every single opportunity to do this – even if it means making life uncomfortable for opponents and the viewing experience ugly for neutrals watching on television.

Give us your gut feeling… will Everton make it into Europe? 🌍

With the Toffees still on course for a spot in the UEFA Champions League next season, no Everton fan will care one bit about how European football is achieved if Moyes manages to do it.
