Brighton loan watch: Amario Cozier-Duberry returns but in-form duo ruled out with injuries

Brighton didn’t play over Easter weekend, but 12 Seagulls stars were in action for their respective loan clubs. Amario Cozier-Duberry returned from injury for Bolton, whilst Carl Rushworth kept another clean sheet.

The Brighton Base takes a closer look at these performances and at how the rest of the Albion’s loan army got on in the last week.

Evan Ferguson (AS Roma): vs. Inter Milan

Out for the season after undergoing ankle surgery.

Brajan Gruda (RB Leipzig): vs. Werder Bremen

Suffered a groin injury on international duty with the German Under-21s. It remains unclear when he will be back and available for selection.

Diego Coppola (Paris FC): vs. Lorient

Played the entire 90 minutes of Paris FC’s 1-1 draw with Lorient. The Italian was a big aerial presence in that match, making four headed clearances. He also almost scored when rising highest to steer his header towards goal from a corner in the second half, but it was routinely saved by Yvon Mvogo.

Facundo Buonanotte (Leeds): vs. West Ham

Again, he was left out of Daniel Farke’s Leeds squad. The Argentine was not included in the Whites’ FA Cup team for their penalty shootout victory over West Ham on Sunday.

Buonanotte has not played for the Whites since 15 February, when he played for just 45 minutes in an FA Cup match against Championship side Birmingham City.

Tommy Watson (Millwall): vs. Middlesbrough and Norwich City

Was an unused substitute in Millwall’s 2-1 win over Middlesbrough in their midweek fixture last week. He then came off the bench and played 10 minutes for the Lions on Monday in a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Norwich City.

Watson has played just 186 league minutes for Millwall since joining the Championship club in the January transfer window.

Malick Yalcouye (Swansea City): vs. Sheffield United and Middlesbrough

Made a rare start for Swansea City and played 58 minutes in their 3-3 draw with Sheffield United on Friday. He returned to the bench and played nine minutes on Monday in the Swans’ 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough, where he was booked late on for delaying a quick free-kick.

Ibrahim Osman (Birmingham City): vs. Blackburn Rovers and Ipswich Town

Started and played 65 minutes in Birmingham City’s 1-0 loss to Blackburn Rovers on Friday before featuring for 34 minutes as a substitute in their 1-0 defeat to Ipswich Town on Monday night.

James Beadle (Birmingham City): vs. Blackburn Rovers and Ipswich Town

Started in goal and played all 90 minutes of both Birmingham City’s defeats this week. The English U21 international made an impressive double-save against Blackburn, but it wasn’t enough to keep his side from losing. Birmingham have now gone four matches without a win.

Eiran Cashin (Blackburn Rovers): vs. Birmingham City and West Brom

The defender is suffering from a slight groin strain and missed both of Blackburn Rovers’ matches this week.

Jeremy Sarmiento (Middlesbrough): vs. Millwall and Swansea City

Made a one-minute cameo off the bench in a 2-1 loss to Millwall on Friday. He then made just his third league start of the season for Middlesbrough in their 2-2 draw with Swansea City on Monday. Sarmiento created two chances in that match but did not directly contribute to either of Boro’s goals.

Carl Rushworth (Coventry City): vs. Derby County and Hull City

Played all 90 minutes of both Coventry City’s matches this week. The 24-year-old first conceded two goals to Ben Brereton Diaz in a 3-2 win over Derby County on Friday. He then kept a clean sheet and made four saves in a hard-fought 0-0 draw with Hull City on Monday.

Amario Cozier-Duberry (Bolton Wanderers): vs. Plymouth Argyle and Stockport County

Did not feature in Bolton Wanderers’ 2-1 win over Plymouth Argyle in their midweek fixture last week. However, he made his long-awaited return from injury on Monday in the Trotters’ 2-2 draw with Stockport County. The 20-year-old winger played 18 minutes from the bench.

Prior to Monday’s match, Cozier-Duberry had been ruled out since 24 January with a knee ligament injury. Depending on how he recovers going forward, the Brighton loan player could play a pivotal role in Bolton’s promotion push to end the season. His side are currently fourth place in League One and look set to secure a spot in the play-offs.

Yoon Do-young (FC Dordrecht): vs. Roda JC Kerkrade and Cambuur

Returned from his one-match ban and played 23 minutes from the bench in a 3-0 loss to Roda JC Kerkrade. The South Korean winger started the following match, a 1-1 draw with Cambuur, where he was unusually deployed as a striker. He did not make much of an impact in the role and was ultimately subbed off in the 62nd minute.

Kamari Doyle (Reading): vs. Huddersfield Town and Lincoln City

Played 83 minutes in Reading’s 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town on Friday. He started again on Monday against Lincoln City, but was forced off after just 28 minutes with what appeared to be a knock. The Royals would go on to lose that match 2-1.

Mark O’Mahony (Reading): N/A

After dealing with a long-term injury since December, the Brighton loan player officially ended his stint with Reading and has returned to his parent club. O’Mahony announced the loan termination on Instagram during the international break.

“Not the way I wanted this season to go or end but always grateful for it and thanks to @readingfc for the time I had there. Time to recover and get ready for next season,” he wrote.

Caylan Vickers (Wigan Athletic): vs. Leyton Orient and Northampton Town

Made two short appearances off the bench for Wigan Athletic. On Thursday, the 21-year-old attacking midfielder played 12 minutes as a substitute in Wigan’s 0-0 draw with Leyton Orient. He then came on for 18 minutes in the Latics’ 3-1 win over Northampton on Monday. By all accounts, Vickers did not have a major impact in either game.

Jacob Slater (Harrogate Town): vs. Grimsby Town and Bristol Rovers

Played all 90 minutes of Harrogate Town’s 3-1 win over Grimsby Town on Friday night. He then played 76 minutes in a 3-2 loss to Bristol Rovers on Monday.
