PSG v Liverpool: Key player‘ruled out’ for Wednesday CL clash despite training on Tuesday

PSG Champions League

Paris Saint-Germain star Bradley Barcola won’t be available to face Liverpool in the Champions League clash on Wednesday.

Liverpool secured a berth in the quarter-final after overcoming the 1-0 deficit to beat Galatasaray 4-1 on aggregate in the last 16.

The first leg between the Reds and PSG will take place at Parc des Princes tomorrow.

PSG manager Luis Enrique will be without the winger, who has been a regular when available for selection.

The France international has scored 12 goals and contributed six assists from 38 matches so far this season.

His Champions League stats this season are as follows:

Appearances: 12

Starts: 12

Total minutes played: 869

Minutes per game: 72

Goals: 2

Assists: 3

Big chances created: 2

Big chances missed: 9

PSG blow for Liverpool clash

Bradley Barcola picked up an injury in PSG’s 3-0 Champions League win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on March 17th. Désiré Doué replaced him in the 59th minute.

The attacker has been on the sidelines since then and RMC Sport now report he returned to training earlier today.

Despite this, he will not play against Liverpool as he has been ‘ruled out’ for tomorrow’s clash.

RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share more updates on his absence to face Liverpool.

He claims the 23-year-old ‘will not play’ against Arne Slot’s side. Although his recovery from an ankle sprain is going faster than expected, he isn’t fit enough to feature at home on Wednesday.

PSG’s medical staff will continue to monitor the Frenchman’s situation closely in the next few days. Barcola would be hoping to make himself available for the return leg at Anfield next Tuesday.

Last summer, Sport Witness relayed news suggesting Liverpool’s interest in Barcola. It’s unclear whether the Reds are still keen and if they are, Slot’s side won’t be able to take a closer look at him tomorrow.

PSG and Liverpool’s record this season

The reigning European champions have enjoyed a good run in this year’s competition and lost only two matches so far. Both were in the group stage against Bayern Munich and Sporting.

Luis Enrique’s side only failed to score once, in the goalless draw against Athletic Club Bilbao, in the group stage.

Liverpool, on the other hand, have won nine and lost three of their 12 Champions League matches this season.
