Alexander Isak trains after skipping Man City loss: Ready for PSG vs. Liverpool

Alexander Isak worked with the Liverpool first team ahead of their trip to Paris Saint-Germain, with the striker fit and expected to make the squad in France.

Isak made his long-awaited return to full training last week, but was then left out of the matchday squad for Saturday’s FA Cup defeat to Man City.

He instead stayed to work at the AXA Training Centre, which continued as Arne Slot oversaw an open session on Tuesday afternoon ahead of the Champions League quarter-final first leg away to PSG.

There were no new absentees or surprise inclusions as a 20-strong group of outfielders were put through their paces in the Kirkby sunshine.

Jeremie Frimpong was involved after recent fitness issues and he could be among those rotated into the side.

The only player who took part in Tuesday’s training guaranteed to miss the clash with PSG is Calvin Ramsay, with the right-back not eligible for the Champions League.

It remains to be seen whether Frimpong will start or Joe Gomez will keep his place, however, with Slot explaining after the 4-0 loss at Man City that Gomez was substituted for “if we want to use him on Wednesday.”

Andy Robertson, Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo are among those who could also be considered to start at the Parc des Princes.

One player who is almost certain to be retained is Florian Wirtz, who is set to join Slot for pre-match media duties on Tuesday evening (6.30pm UK time).

Before then Liverpool will board a flight to Paris, with the club expected to confirm their travelling squad shortly before departure.

Hopes of victory over PSG are certainly not high, with morale taking another blow with the collapse at the Etihad – and former France striker Christophe Dugarry believes the Reds will “arrive terrified.”

“It’s going to be a walk in the park, honestly. Liverpool are disastrous,” he told RMC Sport this week.

“Fourteen wins, 10 losses, and seven draws since the start of the season in the league. They’re catastrophic.”
