What Pep Guardiola has said about Everton's newest transfer target Shea Charles

Everton are eyeing a move to sign Southampton midfielder Shea Charles.

It has been reported that Everton have been scouting Shea Charles ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Saints are demanding around £20m to sanction the 22-year-old’s sale, as he enters the final year of his contract on the south coast.

Would this be a good signing on a one-year deal? 🤔

Kieran Trippier question.

Charles actually came through the ranks at Manchester City, and he was incredibly highly rated around the club.

That said, we’ve revisited some old quotes from Pep Guardiola about the new Everton transfer target.

Pep Guardiola says Everton target Shea Charles is ‘so composed’

Speaking back in May 2023, after Charles made his Manchester City debut, Guardiola explained that he’s ‘so composed’ on the ball.

“For these guys the best way to give them the opportunity to play is to surround them with the normal team and protection but it’s not easy,” Guardiola stated.

“Shea Charles against this team with top, top strikers, fast and strong, it’s not the easiest debut. At the same time we don’t play for points.

“Kyle helped him and Aymer and the other ones. He played really good and it’s fantastic for the academy.

“The academy in the last three years, the U18s, the U23s and the first team, three years in a row all three teams won all their leagues. That means the club is working amazingly.

“We know him, he trains quite regularly with us, he’s so good, so composed.”

Charles predominantly operates as a defensive midfielder and is much more of a deep-lying playmaker rather than a destroyer, like Idrissa Gana Gueye.

Perhaps that indicates that Moyes wants to move more towards a possession-based outfit next term, as his Toffees side continues to evolve.

Competition is rife for Charles, though, as Manchester United are reportedly showing an interest, so it won’t be an easy deal to do.
