Newcastle United’s search for promising young South American talent continues, according to a new report.
Ross Wilson dispatched his long-term collaborator Thomas Federspiel to South America to unearth some young gems to bring into Newcastle’s academy.
So far, we’ve been linked with plenty of young talents tipped for greatness, and have even signed Johan Martinez two years before he’s even legally allowed to come to England.
There have been plenty of names linked with Newcastle, with scouts spotted all around South America.
The latest link comes from Argentina via a post on X, as the Buenos Aires Times has reported that Newcastle are monitoring 17-year-old Lautaro Piola.
Esto es Newcastle relayed the report, which claims a fee of £5 million may be required to land the youngster who has already been likened to Argentine star Lautaro Martinez.
They claim that the Velez Sarsfield forward has great finishing and pressing, which sounds perfect for Eddie Howe’s Newcastle.

We know that Newcastle have their minions in that part of the world scouting for new talent, so there’s no reason not to believe this claim; however, we can’t locate the actual report on the English version of the Buenos Aires Times, so there is a little bit of scepticism to be had here.
A £5 million fee for a 17-year-old seems high, but at the same time, in this day and age, not unreasonable. Especially if he has the potential to be the next Lautaro Martinez.
We’re not 100% convinced by this one, just because it has been tricky to verify the source, but there’s still plenty of it that adds up, too.
Rumour rating: 6/10 – There’s enough to believe, but plenty to be wary of too
