Liverpool name 21-man PSG travelling squad

Liverpool have named a 21-man travelling squad to face PSG at the Parc Des Princes on Wednesday evening.

The Reds know they will need every ounce of experience and quality available to them if they are to come away from Paris with a positive result and put themselves in a strong position ahead of the return game at Anfield.

European nights like this are exactly what this new-look Liverpool squad has been built for, and the manager will be looking to his senior players to set the tone in what is likely to be a hostile Parc des Princes atmosphere.

Alexander Isak was spotted in training this Tuesday and has been selected by Arne Slot. The full squad is as follows:

Gomez, Van Dijk, Konate, Kerkez, Wirtz, Szoboszlai, Isak, Mac Allister, Salah, Chiesa, Jones, Gakpo, Ekitike, Mamardashvili, Robertson, Woodman, Frimpong, Gravenberch, Nyoni, Ngumoha, Misciur.

There are no major surprises besides academy goalkeeper Kornel Misciur, who comes in to supplement the shot-stopper department with Alisson Becker out until at least the end of April.

Meanwhile, PSG manager Luis Enrique said ahead of the tie in his press conference:

“We’re going to try to have the ball more than Liverpool, a very good team with quality players and a very good coach. It’ll be difficult. In the quarter-finals, it’s naturally a special game, because there are just eight teams.”

“When you start to get used to being at this level, it’s great as a team. It’s of course positive to be able to show it against Liverpool. What we want is to qualify. We’re aware of the difficulty but we’re motivated. We want to enjoy playing at the Parc.”

The Spaniard added:

“What will the result be? We’ll see. Last season, we put in one of our best performances, but we lost. Liverpool were favourites, and PSG qualified. There’s no favourite at this stage of the competition. It’s important to look to control what we can control.”

“Liverpool are a very high level team and to think you’re the favourites is the best way to make a mess of things. It’s not important to know who’s the favourite in this competition, in this kind of game. It’s impossible that there’s a favourite. For me, there isn’t one.”
