Several Sunderland players have impressed over the course of the season - but who is the most consistent?
There is no doubt the Black Cats have exceeded all expectations since marking their return to the top flight with a 3-0 home win against West Ham United on the opening day of the campaign. Since then Regis Le Bris’ side have racked up impressive results against the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool, as well as completing a historic double over arch rivals Newcastle United.
As it stands, the Black Cats are sitting in eleventh place in the table - but crucially, they are just three points adrift of the top seven and just six points from the top five and that means a memorable campaign could still end with European qualification for only the second time in the club’s history and the first time since Bob Stokoe’s side qualified for the Cup Winners Cup in 1973.
An ambitious summer transfer laid the foundations for what was to follow as several eye-catching additions were made to Le Bris’ promotion-winning squad and the likes of Robin Roefs, Omar Alderete, Brian Brobbey and Granit Xhaka have already made themselves firm favourites with the Stadium of Light faithful. But how has been Sunderland’s most consistent player this season? We take a look at the average match ratings for each member of the Black Cats squad according to the stats experts at WhoScored.
