Alexander Isak “can play” against PSG, confirms Arne Slot – “but not to start”

Arne Slot has confirmed that Alexander Isak will be able to “play a part” against Paris Saint-Germain, but the striker won’t be fit to start.

It has been a long four months since Isak fractured his left fibula and ankle ligaments against Tottenham in December.

He is now finally about to pull on the red shirt again, with Slot confirming that he will be able to feature against PSG having travelled with the squad.

The head coach explained: “Finished close to a week of team training sessions now, so he can play a part otherwise I wouldn’t take him.”

Isak returned to full training last Thursday but wasn’t deemed able to play against Man City in Liverpool’s 4-0 loss at the weekend.

“I decided not to take him to the Etihad because we felt, in talks with the player, medical medical performance staff, that he was able to get a performance out of him yet,” Slot added.

“And since he’s with us now, we think we can get a performance out of him now, but not to start.”
