Bayern Munich have struck the first blow in their Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid, with Luis Diaz opening the scoring in the tie. Los Blancos have struggled to live with Bayern in the opening exchanges, despite creating some openings of their own.
The first clear chance of the game went to Dayot Upamecano, who fluffed his lines six yards out, before Serge Gnabry did similar after a bad giveaway from Thiago Pitarch. Real Madrid did respond with some openings of their own, Manuel Neuer saving well down low to Kylian Mbappe on two occasions.
Bayern Munich take the lead through Luis Diaz
It was five minutes before the break that the breakthrough came for Bayern though. Vinicius Junior’s pass hit Michael Olise, and Harry Kane quickly sent Gnabry running at the backline. The German international slipped Diaz in behind Trent Alexander-Arnold, and his finish was flawless beyond Andriy Lunin.
