Rangers "interested" in "one of the signings of the season" who's open to joining

Rangers are "interested" in a move for Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt, who is attracting lots of interest following his loan spell at Hull City, according to reports.

The Gers are set to spend big to improve their attacking ranks this summer, starting with a move for loanee Mikey Moore.

Tottenham are expected to want to keep the young winger if they are relegated to the Championship, where he would be afforded more opportunities, but Premier League survival would open the door for Rangers to make their move.

Danny Rohl is also eyeing a move for Southampton midfielder Shea Charles, who he worked with during the 22 year-old's spell at Sheffield Wednesday.

According to Football Insider's Mick Brown, Gelhardt is an option to reinforce the manager's striker options, and the youngster is open to a permanent exit from Elland Road.

Gelhardt has been fantastic during a loan spell at Hull, with Michael Dawson dubbing him "one of the signings of the season".

"He (Gelhardt) came in last year on loan and enjoyed his time, and he's certainly repaying the faith that the manager has shown in him. He's been the bright spark. He's one of the reasons that Hull City are where they are."

Now, Brown reveals the 49ers connection between Leeds and Rangers could create a smooth path to negotiations for a player set to attract interest from a number of clubs this summer.

"Rangers are interested in signing Joe Gelhardt,” he said, with the 23 year-old expected to cost between £3m and £5m.

“The link they’ve got with Leeds will be helpful, with the owners, because it makes negotiations between the clubs that much easier than it normally is.

“Leeds are prepared to let him go, they don’t think he’s got a long-term future there so they’ve been open to offers for a while and let him go out on loan.

“By all accounts, he’s been excellent for Hull City, and Rangers have taken note of that."

Celtic will face Hearts at Parkhead on the final day of the William Hill Premiership season after the post-split fixtures were confirmed by the Scottish Professional Football League.

Rangers, also in the three-club title race, will be at Falkirk for the third time this season in their final match, also on May 16.

With six fixtures remaining, leaders Hearts are one point ahead of the Light Blues with Celtic, who have won 13 of the last 14 titles, a further two points behind.

In the final pre-split fixtures next weekend, Hearts host Motherwell, the Hoops are at home to St Mirren and Rangers travel to Falkirk.

The final Old Firm game of the campaign takes place at Celtic Park in the third round of fixtures – Sunday, May 10 – after Rangers travel to Tynecastle the previous Monday.

The final Edinburgh derby of the campaign between Hibernian and Hearts at Easter Road is the first fixture after the split on April 26.
