Liverpool opted to sell Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen at the end of last season.

Liverpool are unlikely to activate a clause to buy back Jarell Quansah this summer, reports suggest.

The Reds opted to sell the homegrown centre-back during last summer’s transfer window. Quansah made only two Premier League start en route to Liverpool winning the Premier League title in 2024-25, with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate the preferred defensive partnership.

Quansah was sold to Bayer Leverkusen for a fee of £35 million. However, Liverpool installed a clause to give them the option to repurchase the 23-year-old for £60 million in 2027. But Sky Sports Germany suggests that the Reds are able to bring Quansah back to Anfield in the coming months set at around £70 million.

Quansah has thrived for Leverkusen, making 38 appearances and scoring three goals in all competitions. But the England international looks likely to stay in the Bundesliga for another year, with Liverpool’s focus on extending Ibrahima Konate’s deal which expires in June.

Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg posted on X: “Liverpool still have the option to activate a buy-back clause for Jarell #Quansah until the end of May, set at €80 million. So far, however, Leverkusen have received no indication - neither from the player nor from Liverpool. #LFC‘s current focus is on extending Ibrahima Konaté’s contract.”

Liverpool have already agreed to sign Jeremy Jacquet, 20, from Rennes for a fee of up to £60 million at the end of the season. Meanwhile, the Reds will see Giovani Leoni return to fitness. Leoni, 19, was recruited for £26 million from Parma last summer but he suffered a cruel ruptured anterior cruciate ligament

In addition, Liverpool signed 17-year-old Senegal youth international Mor Talla Ndiaye in January for around £1 million, while they have an agreement in principle with Austria Wren to bring in Ifeanyi Ndukwe, 18, for a fee in the region of £2.6 million. Ndukwe will move to Merseyside at the end of the campaign.
