Opinion: Sean Dyche would massively approve potentially 'brilliant' Everton signing this summer

Everton could land the signing of Kieran Trippier this summer, which would certainly get Sean Dyche’s approval.

Trippier has announced he’ll leave Newcastle United this summer as a free agent.

The summer transfer window could see Everton need to prepare their squad for a 2026/27 season of European football.

Would this be a good signing on a one-year deal? 🤔

Kieran Trippier question.

Trippier is someone who has played under Dyche before and the former Everton boss has only had positive words to say about their time together.

What Sean Dyche has previously said about Everton target Kieran Trippier

Everton have tried to sign Trippier in the past, as their search for a new right-back leads into the summer.

Before joining Tottenham Hotspur, the 35-year-old was playing under Dyche at Burnley.

Does Sean Dyche get enough credit for his spell at Everton? 🤔

“Brilliant. I said in an interview recently – he’s my favourite Trips – and the reason is this [passing ability],” Dyche told Roy Keane on the Stick to Football podcast.

“I said back in the day, we had Danny Ings up front and Kieran Trippier at right-back. You know this modernism and my team doesn’t play the right way.

“I would be doing him a disservice as a footballer if I said ‘Tripps, you’re only allowed to give it 10 yards’, because he can pass that ball anywhere on a football pitch.”

Trippier is outperforming Leighton Baines’ crossing records from his 2017/18 Premier League season at Everton.

The 35-year-old is still operating at such a high level with the ball at his feet.

Trippier does not have to be Everton’s starting right-back

There is no reason why Everton would have to sign Trippier and make him their starting right-back for next season.

The Englishman has not been Newcastle’s starter this season and he could welcome a reduced role closer to his place of birth in the north west.

Everton want to improve at right-back this summer, and Moyes has made no secret of this to reporters in his press conferences this year.

With question marks still hanging over Seamus Coleman’s future on Merseyside, Trippier could come in as the senior figurehead in that position and offer cover to a younger option.
