Aston Villa keeping tabs on Spanish star ahead of summer window

Spanish star will be out of contract this summer.

Villa are keeping tabs on Celta Vigo right-back Oscar Mingueza ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old Spaniard is due to become a free agent at the end of the season and Villa have been among the clubs monitoring his situation.

First-choice right-back Matty Cash signed a new contract earlier this season but finding reliable cover has been problematic throughout Unai Emery’s reign.

Youngster Lamare Bogarde impressed when deputising for Cash last month but Andres Garcia, signed from Levante in January 2025, has endured an injury-riddled first full season in English football.

Villa’s plans for the summer window will again be largely shaped by whether or not they qualify for the Champions League.

But the club will remain restricted, to some extent, by the need to comply with Uefa’s financial fair play rules, regardless of whether they secure a return to Europe’s elite club competition.

Villa make their long-awaited return to action, following an 18-day break, when they face Bologna on Thursday night in the first leg of a Europa League quarter-final.

Emery’s squad will train at Bodymoor Heath on Wednesday morning before flying to Italy early in the afternoon.

The Spaniard faces making at least two changes to the line-up which started Villa’s last match, a 2-0 Premier League win over West Ham, with Jadon Sancho (shoulder) missing through injury and Ross Barkley not part of the Europa League squad.
