Leeds United hero keen on summer switch to Sheffield United - report

Leeds United hero Kalvin Phillips is reportedly keen on staying at Sheffield United beyond the end of the current campaign.

The 30-year-old was born in Leeds and enjoyed a fairytale rise through the ranks of his boyhood club.

He flourished under the tutelage of Marcelo Bielsa and pocketed the Whites a reported £45m when he moved to Manchester City in the summer of 2022.

Kalvin Phillips ‘keen’ on Sheffield United stay

According to The Star, however, Phillips is keen on remaining in South Yorkshire beyond the expiry of his current loan deal.

It has been suggested the Blades will explore the possibility of another loan deal for the England-capped Yorkshireman, who is thought to have impressed Sheffield United staff with his attitude.

Manchester City are reportedly paying a significant portion of Phillips’ wages and the help of the Premier League giants could again be required.

Kalvin Phillips looking forward

A fully fit and firing Phillips is undeniably an asset in the Championship, where he thrived during his later years at Leeds.

He played an integral role in the club’s title triumph back in 2020, later going on to star in the Premier League.

Phillips’ fall from prominence has not been an easy watch but having only turned 30 in December, time is still on his side.

“And I just feel like staying idle, so many players have done it, where they've stayed at the club for so long and not played. And then their careers have fizzled out. I didn't want that to happen.

“I still feel like I've still got some life in me. I've still got some football in me to play, and I'm looking forward to the next three or four years.”
