The Friedkins face controversial decision as Everton offered lucrative sponsorship deal -…

Everton have been offered a new opportunity by Stake to become their shirt sleeve sponsor for next season.

The gambling company will be dropped as Everton’s front-of-shirt sponsor over the summer due to new regulations coming into the game.

However, there is no rule to say that The Friedkin Group could not strike a deal to keep Stake as one of the club’s main sponsors.

Keeping the gambling platform involved in the club may not go down well with some, but a lucrative deal is on the table for the club to mull over.

“Stake have offered Everton a deal to be the sleeve sponsor. As we know, under the new rules and regulations coming in, you can’t have a gambling company on the front of your shirt, but there is no rule against having one on your sleeve,” he said.

The Friedkins have already secured Everton some big sponsorship deals including the stadium naming rights agreement with Hill Dickinson.

“We all know Stake have had some problems regarding being registered in the UK,” he added.

“There have been some discrepancies there, and I know a few clubs are very cautious or apprehensive about even having a gambling company on their sleeve, given the general feeling surrounding it.”

“Stake do sponsor Everton relatively well (it is a well-paid sponsorship) and they want to continue with the club. However, because they cannot be on the front of the shirt under the new rules, we’re seeing around 11 other clubs also looking for new shirt sponsors.”

Everton are left with an interesting decision ahead of them.

The club could well see some backlash from certain sections of the fanbase if they decide to go down the route of retaining Stake through this potential loophole in the regulations.

Not only would the club be promoting a gambling company, but they would also be promoting one that has had issues in becoming registered in the United Kingdom.

Everton’s finances have been improved under the Friedkins, but this is a decision that is more than just the money on the table.
