West Ham midfielder has concrete transfer intention – Knows where he wants to go

West Ham United‘s Edson Álvarez has firm ideas around a transfer in the summer.

Last August, West Ham allowed the 28-year-old to join Fenerbahçe on loan with an option to buy.

The Mexico international hasn’t able to feature regularly mainly due to multiple injuries and fitness concerns.

He has already missed over 100 days of action and is now recovering from a knee injury suffered in February.

The midfielder underwent surgery and recently made a trip to his country for treatment with the national team. On April 3rd, Sport Witness relayed news there’s expectation for him to return to pitch with Fenerbahçe later this month.

His league stats are as follows:

Appearances: 11

Starts: 10

Total minutes: 767

Minutes per game: 70

West Ham man wants Europe transfer

The Turkish club added N’Golo Kanté to their squad in the winter market and he’s starring for them. Therefore, the West Ham owned player may struggle for regular minutes until the end of this season.

His poor season so far at Fenerbahçe has resulted in claims of a possible return to Club América. He graduated from their academy and played three years for the first team before leaving them for Ajax in 2019.

América Monumental, a website dedicating their coverage to the Mexican club, found out he won’t return in the summer.

That’s because Edson Álvarez has a firm desire to continue in Europe, at least for a few years. That should dismiss any claims suggesting his potential return to Club América in the next window.

What next for Mexican and West Ham

The Yellow Canaries have an option to make his stay permanent but it’s unclear whether it will be activated.

If not, the player has to return to West Ham, and both the club and Nuno Espírito Santo would then have to make a decision on his future.

It would depend on where the London side will play next season as the Hammers are 18th in the table, a point behind 17th placed Tottenham Hotspur.

Should Edson Álvarez decide to leave, Ajax could be an option for him. Two months ago, Sport Witness relayed news that the Eredivisie side have a realistic chance of signing him, after missing out in January.

His contract is until 2028 and Transfermarkt value him at €18m.
