Liverpool have their sights set on one of Europe’s brightest talents who impressed Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
The quest to replace Mohamed Salah has seen plenty of exciting transfer prospects identified in the past couple of weeks. But no player is quite as appealing a target as Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise, who made the Bernabeu his playground in a first-leg win over Real Madrid.
After the game, Henry and Carragher discussed his performance, illustrating why Liverpool are so keen to bring him back to the Premier League in the upcoming summer window.
Form aside, is this a better XI on paper than what we’ll see tonight? 🤔

Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher love watching Michael Olise
The pundit duo were on the job on Tuesday night, covering a blockbuster Champions League tie between two of the competition’s most successful clubs.
Appearing on CBS, Henry was full of praise for his fellow Frenchman, who had Alvaro Carreras chasing his tail for 90 minutes.
He said: “There is something that Michael does ever so well, that wingers do not do. As soon as he controls it, he squares you straight away, and because you know he can go right or left you have to respect that. Every time he controls the ball, he turns straight away on the guy…

“Those are the players we want to see. Whether it’s Lamine Yamal or Michael Olise, keep playing the way you’re playing because you’re making it very enjoyable for everybody.”

Carragher adds: “Michael Olise’s game against Real Madrid was one of the best performances I’ve seen this season from any player.”
He is a joy to watch, and the prospect of having him at Anfield is tantalising. Unfortunately, Bayern look like holding on to Olise this summer at least.
Though, as we saw with Alexander Isak last season, nothing is off the table completely. Liverpool have their sights on Yan Diomande, but should only pull the trigger on the 19-year-old once an Olise deal is 100% off the table.
And if it can’t be as soon as this summer, he should remain on Liverpool’s shortlist indefinitely. This is a player who has room to get even better — a scary prospect indeed.
