Newcastle eye Denzel Dumfries as Kieran Trippier replacement – Report

**Eddie Howe could potentially lose all three first-team right-backs this summer as Newcastle United braces for change.**

There’s expected to be a lot of ins and outs at Newcastle this summer, with [Kieran Trippier’s exit already confirmed.](https://www.nufcblog.co.uk/2026/04/04/kieran-trippier-says-emotional-goodbye-and-will-leave-newcastle-united-this-summer/)

Tino Livramento’s future at Newcastle is up in the air too, with Manchester City very keen on the England full-back, while Emil Krafth is also going to be out of contract at the end of the season.

That leaves Newcastle with a huge problem at right-back, with all three first-team players in that position potentially leaving. Newcastle need to bring in at least two players to cover right-back in the summer now, potentially three if Tino Livramento does leave.

A report from Italian outlet [L’Interista](https://www.linterista.it/primo-piano/cosa-scegliera-dumfries-l-inter-ha-le-idee-chiare-la-premier-e-pronta-189702) has claimed that Newcastle United are one of a few Premier League clubs looking towards Inter Milan full-back Denzel Dumfries.

The Dutch star has had his injury issues this season, but his quality is undeniable, as evidenced by the fact that Liverpool, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Aston Villa are all keeping tabs on his situation going into the summer.

The 29-year-old has yet to commit his future to Inter, and as such, other clubs are poised to swoop in the summer if they feel there’s any chance he could be on the move.

Dumfries has 71 Dutch caps and has even contributed 11 goals for his country. The powerful full-back is a monster, and while he’s very different to Trippier and Livramento, we’d love to see him in the black and white.

We’d be slightly concerned about his age, but Trippier has proved this season that age is just a number as the 35-year-old has played two games a week and done so at a high level, so we could still get a few good years out of Dumfries.

The competition is fierce, though, especially with Liverpool and Manchester United involved, so whether we have what it takes to convince him to come to Tyneside, we’re not so sure.

**Rumour rating**: 5/10 –  The source isn’t one we’d put a lot of faith in. His age puts him in a doutful category too and even if it is true, the competition is immense. We’ve bumped it up a point or two because we’d love it to be true.
