With Mo Salah leaving, Steven Gerrard says he would “love” Michael Olise to sign for Liverpool – but acknowledged his acquisition may be difficult.
Planning for life after Salah began before the 33-year-old’s announcement that he would be leaving at the end of the season, and Michael Olise has been one of the names most heavily linked.
Along with RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, Olise has been touted as one of the names on Liverpool’s shortlist to replace Salah.
For most fans, the Bayern Munich right-winger is right at the top and Gerrard shares a similar view.

Asked if he would like to Olise at Anfield, Gerrard told TNT Sports: “All day long but the problem is, why would he leave Bayern Munich?
“[They’re a] big club, they’re challenging for the big honours, probably the strongest Bayern Munich team we’ve seen for a while.
“He’s about to take the World Cup by storm come the summer. He looks like a really happy kid, settled.
“I don’t think he’s going anywhere, but yes, I would love him at Liverpool. And you know what, I wouldn’t mind [Luis] Diaz back as well.”
Gerrard was speaking in advance of Bayern’s Champions League quarter-final away against Real Madrid, and the pair’s performances in their 2-1 win at the Bernabeu only served to whet the appetite.
The left-footed former Crystal Palace attacker, Olise, lined up on the right and provided constant danger to the hosts’ backline.

In an end-to-end game, Olise had space to drive beyond full-back Alvaro Carreras and rip Los Blancos’ left side apart.
The 24-year-old was awarded FotMob‘s player of the match and provided the assist for Harry Kane’s well-taken second goal.
France’s forward created two chances, had the third-most touches of any player (82) and completed four of his seven dribbles.
Olise wouldn’t come cheap to Liverpool; the Reds have questionably been claimed to be offering “as much as €200 million (£173m)” by SPORT BILD, which fits into Sky Germany’s report that a move is “completely unrealistic.”
In fact, Bayern sporting director Max Eberl has already said: “We’re not wasting any thought on that (Olise exit).
“He’s an FC Bayern player and has all the opportunities here that top players could wish for. Michael has a contract with us until 2029, without a release clause – we’re relaxed.”

Olise’s teammate on the opposite flank, ex-Liverpool attacker Diaz, wasn’t too bad against Madrid either.
The Colombian calmly finished the opener and recorded the quickest sprint for Bayern on the night, clocking a top speed of 32.9 km/h.
He was up against Trent Alexander-Arnold on Bayern’s left, with the former teammates going head-to-head at both ends of the pitch.
Diaz had the better of Alexander-Arnold in the Madrid half, but the right-back made a positive impact on the game by producing a brilliant cross to set up Kylian Mbappe’s 74th-minute goal.
Should Liverpool progress past PSG, they will play the winner of the tie which concludes at the Allianz Arena next Wednesday
