Hammers midfielder Halle Houssein has been named in the Turkey squad for their upcoming 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying fixtures against Switzerland.

Turkey began their qualifying campaign in impressive fashion, securing a 3-0 victory over Malta followed by a 1-0 win against Northern Ireland. Those results left them sitting second in UEFA Group B2, level on points but behind Switzerland on goal difference.

Houssein, 21, who was born in Waltham Forest earned her first start for her country in the win over Malta and will be hoping to build on that experience when the Turks face group leaders Switzerland, who include Hammers teammate Leila Wandeler.

The two sides will meet first on Tuesday 14 April at Stadion Letzigrund in Zurich, kicking off at 6pm BST. They will then face each other again on Saturday 18 April at Sinop Sehir Stadyumu in Sinop, with kick-off scheduled for 5pm BST.

Qualifying for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil is a complex process, with 53 UEFA nations competing for 11 places at the finals. Four group winners will qualify automatically, while the remaining spots will be decided through a series of play-offs involving 32 teams.

These include second, third and fourth-place finishers from the top-tier groups, along with leading teams from the other groups, who will battle it out across two knockout rounds to determine the final European qualifiers and one side that will progress to the inter-confederation play-offs.
