Real Madrid vs. Girona: Head-to-head record and past meetings

Real Madrid will be aiming to avoid a third straight defeat in all competitions when they welcome Girona to Bernabeu on Spain's top flight on Friday evening.

Los Blancos lost 2-1 to Mallorca in the league last time out before suffering a 2-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

Real Madrid are currently second in the La Liga table, seven points behind the leaders Barcelona, who are now the heavy favourites to lift the title.

Girona, meanwhile, occupy 12th spot in the division, eight points clear of the relegation zone.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the head-to-head record and looks at the previous meetings between the two sides ahead of their clash in the Spanish capital on Friday night.

Head-to-head record

Previous meetings: 13

Real Madrid wins: 8

Draws: 2

Girona wins: 3

Real Madrid have enjoyed the better of their 13 meetings with Girona over the years, winning eight times and suffering just three defeats, while the spoils have been shared between the sides on two occasions.

The vast majority of the clashes between Los Blancos and the Blanquivermells have taken place in La Liga (11), though the clubs also locked horns in the Copa del Rey back in 2019.

The first-ever showdown between the pair came in October 2017, with Girona incredibly recording a 2-1 victory, but Real Madrid took revenge by winning the reverse match at Bernabeu 6-3.

Real Madrid then secured a 4-1 triumph in their La Liga clash towards the start of the 2018-19 campaign, before beating the Catalan side twice in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey, recording a 4-2 victory at home and 3-1 success away to seal a 7-3 aggregate win.

Girona's second win over Real was a famous one that saw them emerge 2-1 victors at Bernabeu in February 2019, before taking a point from the Spanish giants in a 1-1 draw the next time they met in Madrid in October 2022.

The Red and Whites also beat Real 4-2 on home soil in the league during the 2022-23 campaign, but Los Blancos won 3-0 and 4-0 in their two La Liga fixtures in 2023-24, before posting a 3-0 success in December 2024 and a 2-0 triumph in February 2025.

The most recent matchup between the sides took place in November 2025, when Michel's Girona held Xabi Alonso's men to a 1-1 draw that saw them cede ground to Barcelona in the title race.

Real Madrid are now under major pressure to win Friday's game in the Spanish capital, with Barcelona moving seven points clear at the summit last weekend.

Cristhian Stuani is the leading goalscorer in this particular fixture, having netted five times against Real Madrid during his time at Girona, while Karim Benzema also scored five times versus Girona during his time with Los Blancos.
